Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments

Between October 2009 and June 2012 the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, in partnership with the Southern Africa Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADCPF), implemented the project  “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments”.

The project, funded by the European Union, aimed to promote transparency, accountability, democratic participation, and good governance in the SADC region by empowering the parliaments to better fulfill their democratic functions and contributing to their institutional strengthening through the use of modern information and communication technologies.
Specific objectives of the project were to:

  1. Technically assist the SADC parliaments in developing their vision and individual strategic plans for effective ICT deployment, while at the same time strengthening their capacities in these disciplines;
  2. Support parliaments in preparing development programme documents for ICT integration based on the strategic plans;
  3. Encourage the establishment and consolidation of a regional community of parliamentary ICT strategic planners; and
  4. Strengthen the ICT Parliamentary Committees.
