Board

The work of the Centre is guided by a Board composed of Speakers/Presidents of Parliament. The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations serve as ex officio members. The President of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliament (ASGP) serves as Advisor to the Board and in this capacity participates in its meetings.

The Board meets once a year to endorse the work plan of the Global Centre and discuss its future direction. At the Board meeting, members dialogue around broad political issues concerning information society policies and ICT practices in parliamentary assemblies.

The first high-level meeting of the Board was hosted by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy in Rome in March 2007. The Second high-level meeting was hosted by the United Nations at its Headquarters in New York on 28 February 2008. The third took place in Budapest, Hungary on 6 March 2009, hosted by the Hungarian National Assembly. The fourth meeting was hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., on 4 November 2009. The fifth meeting took place at the Pan-African Parliament in Johannesburg on 22 October 2010.

In order to coordinate the work of the Board, two co-Chairs are elected by the members to serve for a year. Presently, the co-Chairs of the Board are are the European Parliament and the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.

Advisory Committee

An Advisory Committee, composed of representatives of the members of the Board, institutions supporting the Global Centre’s work and key stakeholders, contributes to preparing the annual high-level meeting of the Board, advises the Executive Coordinator of the Global Centre on future plans and contributes to the formulation of strategies by highlighting new areas of work and emerging trends. The first meeting of the Advisory Committee was held in Rome on 17-18 January 2008. The second meeting was held in Rome on 26-27 January 2009. The third meeting took place in Rome on 1-2 October 2009. The fourth meeting took place in Rome on 20-21 September 2010.
