The first ever Secretaries-General Forum of Asia-Pacific Parliaments was held in Seoul from 8 to 9 July 2009. The Forum, hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, was attended by 42 delegations of parliamentary assemblies from 32 countries. Under the slogan "Beginning of a new Asia-Pacific Era” the Forum provided a platform for exchange of information and practices on the topic of e-Parliament, as well as for participants to appreciate the technologies used in the digital chamber of the Korean legislature and at the Library of the National Asssembly. The Forum agreed on a final document - the Seoul Communiqué - which stresses the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the region. As the Secretary General of the Korean National Assembly, Mr. Park Kye-dong, underlined: “The Secretaries-General Forum of Asia-Pacific Parliaments (SGFAPP) is a reality and can become a key cooperative body for the Asia-Pacific Parliaments".
The Global Centre for ICT in Parliament participated in the Forum with a presentation on the contribution of e-parliament to democracy.
