2011

  • In collaboration with the  Inter-Parliamentary Union, from 13 to 17 December 2010 the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament undertook a second mission to assess the use of information and communication technologies of both chambers of the Parliament of Sudan. The mission was funded by the IPU and coordinated its work with the UNDP Country Office in Sudan.

  • At the request of the OECD (Organization of Economic Co-Operation and Development), the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament participated in the second assessment mission on the use of ICT in the Parliament of the Republic of Georgia, from 4 to 6 November 2010. The technical assistance mission focused on discussion and adjustment of the first mission report according to comments and new inputs from the Parliament of Georgia and gathered more detailed information about the ICT environment in order to propose a roadmap for implementation of the recommendations.

  • By registering as a Technical Assistance Expert, you agree to provide current, complete and accurate registration information and maintain such information up to date.

    The Secretariat of the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament reserves the right to terminate service to the expert if it believes that the information provided is misleading and not accurate.

    All information provided by the Expert will be handled confidentially by the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, and information will only be shared with a third party upon concurrence by the expert.

  • The Global Centre, in collaboration with partnering institutions, provides technical assistance and advisory services directed at supporting parliaments to develop among others: Parliament e-readiness analyses; user and system requirement analyses; ICT strategies and operational plans; organizational reengineering and new working methods; parliament interoperability frameworks and pilot projects.

  • El Departamento de Asuntos Económicos y Sociales de las Naciones Unidas, a través del Centro Global para las TIC en el Parlamento, está  organizando el Taller Internacional "Aprovechar las TIC para mejorar los servicios y promover la creación de redes y el intercambio de conocimientos entre bibliotecas parlamentarias de América Latina", que se celebrará en el Congreso Nacional de Chile en Valparaíso del 19 al 21 de enero de 2011.

  • The  Workshop on ICT Strategic Planning in Parliaments of the Caribbean, held from 27 to 29 September 2010 in Bridgetown , Barbados, provided a regional platform to exchange practices among the Caribbean parliaments on the potential of ICT in parliament and on the importance of strategic planning for its effective adoption and integration in

  • The Report of the Workshop is now available.
    The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, organized the workshop “Leveraging ICT to improve services and promote networking and knowledge sharing among Latin American parliamentary libraries”. The workshop was hosted by the National Congress of Chile in Valparaiso from 19 to 21 January 2011.

  • The Workshop “ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments”, held from 26 to 28 July 2010 in Windhoek, Namibia, provided a regional platform to raise awareness among the SADC parliaments on the potential of ICT in parliament and on the importance of strategic planning for the effective adoption and integration of ICT in parliamentary processes.

  • There is a general lack of knowledge regarding the range of technologies being used for capturing and reporting parliamentary proceedings; the benefits and drawbacks of each approach; the appropriateness of each technology in a specific context, taking into account differences in income level, language and culture among countries; and the opportunities for bi-lateral or multi-lateral cooperation that exist, regardless of the development level of each parliament.

  • Following the Workshop on “ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments”, held from 26 to 28 July 2010 in Windhoek, Namibia, the Global Centre and the SADC Parliamentary Forum fielded the first mission on 24 to 29 October 2010, to assist the National Assembly of Malawi in the development of the ICT Strategic Plan. The mission focused on the current state of the ICT envisioning  the implementation of the Parliament Strategic Plan.

  • The Fifth Meeting of the Board of the Global Centre took place on 22 October 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was hosted by the Pan-African Parliament, in conjunction with the World e-Parliament Conference 2010. The Board meeting focused on a review of the activities of the Global Centre and a discussion of a 2010-2020 Framework Programme for the Global Centre. The Board also elected the European Parliament and the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic as new co-Chairs.

  • The Fourth Meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament took place in Rome on 20-21 September 2010 and focused on 1) Review of 2010 activities, 2) Overview of the objectives and structure of the upcoming Meeting of the Board, 3) Elements for a draft Board statement, 4) Presentation of the draft 10-year programmatic document for the continuation of the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament and discussion, 5) Presentation of the Agenda of World e-Parliament Conference 2010 and discussion, and 6) Presentation of the Global Centre’s work plan for 2010 and 2011.

  • 27 September - Hon. Michael Carrington, Speaker of the House of Assembly of Barbados, opened the Workshop on ICT Strategic Planning in Parliaments of the Caribbean addressing parliamentary delegations of twelve countries attending the meeting. The Workshop, co-organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, and the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD), focused on experiences and methodologies to better plan ICT processes in the legislative environment.

  • El Taller sobre la "Planificación Estratégica de TIC en los Parlamentos Caribeños" llevado a cabo  en Bridgetown, Barbados el 27, 28, 29 de septiembre de 2010 y ha tenido como objetivo promover una plataforma regional para el intercambio de experiencias entre los parlamentos caribeños acerca del potencial de TIC en el parlamento y el proceso de planificación estratégica de TIC.

    El Taller  fue destinado a los Secretarios Generales y al Personal/Directores de TIC.

  • L'atelier sur la "Planification Stratégique des TIC aux Parlements des Caraïbes", qui s'est tenu du 27 au 29 Septembre à Bridgetown, Barbade, visait à fournir une plate-forme régionale afin de sensibiliser les Parlements des Caraïbes sur les potentiels des TIC au Parlement et sur l'importance de la planification stratégique pour l'adoption et l'intégration efficaces des TIC dans les processus parlementaires.

    L'atelier s'addressait aux Secrétaires généraux, Directeurs des TIC et personnel informatique au sein des administrations parlementaires.
