Technical Missions - Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments

Two technical assistance missions of one week took place in each parliament of the SADC region. Each mission was conducted by a team of two/three experts, preferably IT staff of more technologically-advanced parliaments, who worked with the staff of the beneficiary parliament. The first mission aimed to carry out an assessment of the state of ICT of the parliament and outline gaps and opportunities for future strategic recommendations for its improvement. The second mission focused on the preparation of the strategic plan.

Report of the Second Workshop “ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments”, May 2012, Namibia

The Second Workshop on ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments was held at the Windhoek Country Club Resort from 14 to 16 May 2012 in Windhoek, Namibia. The purpose of the second Workshop was to provide a forum for each parliament to discuss how the "Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments" project, funded by the European Commission, through the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, lead to any particular achievements, challenges and all other related experiences obtained during their respective ICT strategic planning process. The Workshop also allowed participants to jointly identify needs and promote opportunities going forward for the greater use of ICT in SADC Parliaments while also solidifying an ongoing and supportive community of practice.

Second technical assistance mission to the Parliament of Botswana

In the framework of the European Commission funded project “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments,” the Global Centre recently completed a second technical assistance mission to the Parliament of Botswana from 6 to 8 June 2012.

Second assessment mission to the National Assembly and Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Following the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament's first technical assistance missions to the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in March 2012 and the Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in April 2012, respectively, where the ICT capabilities of both chambers were assessed, a second technical assistance mission took place from 21 to 25 May 2012. The follow-up joint-mission, which fell within the framework of the European Commission funded project “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments,” finalised the assessment reports from both first missions while also submitting individual draft ICT strategic plans to the National Assembly and Senate for their respective consideration.

Following the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament's first technical assistance mission to the National Assembly of Seychelles in September 2011, where an assessment of the Assembly's ICT capabilities was taken, a second technical assistance mission took place from 5 to 9 March 2012. The follow-up mission, which falls within the framework of the European Commission funded project “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in the SADC Parliaments”, finalised the assessment report from the first mission while also submitting a draft ICT strategic plan to the legislature for consideration.

First technical assistance mission to the National Assembly of Botswana

Second assessment mission to the National Assembly of Tanzania

The second assessment mission to the National Assembly of Tanzania took place from 20 to 24 February, in Dar es Salaam. The mission team UNDESA/SADC-PF discussed and adjusted the assessment report in accordance with comments and new inputs from the National Assembly and deliver the ICT Strategic Plan.

Following the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament's first technical assistance mission to the Parliament of Swaziland in June 2011, where an assessment of the Parliament's ICT capabilities was taken, a second technical assistance mission took place from 23 to 27 January 2012. The follow-up mission, which falls within the framework of the European Commission funded project “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in SADC Parliaments”, used the findings made in the assessment and aim to assist the legislature in developing an ICT strategic plan.

First Technical Assistance Mission to the National Assembly of Namibia

In the framework of the European Commission funded project “Support to ICT Strategic Planning in SADC Parliaments”, a first technical mission has been undertaken to the National Assembly of Namibia (12 to 16 December 2011) to carry out an assessment of the status of ICT in the Parliament and make initial recommendations for the development of an ICT Strategic Plan.
