Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is the forum where the Parliaments of the region come together and operate to reach those common objectives towards the creation of the best political, social, economic and cultural environment and conditions for the fellow citizens of the member states.

Nordic Council

The Nordic Council is the official inter-parliamentary body in the Nordic Region. Political discussions are held with members of the governments of the five Nordic countries and the three autonomous territories at the annual Session of the Nordic Council.

Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADCPF)

The Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum seeks to bring regional experiences to bear at the national level, to promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional cooperation and integration as outlined in the SADC Treaty and the Forum Constitution. Its main aim is to provide a platform for parliaments and parliamentarians to promote and improve regional integration in the SADC region, through parliamentary involvement.

Inter-parliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS)

IPA CIS is an advisory body for preparation of draft legislative documents of mutual interest to the nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In its activity the Interparliamentary Assembly attaches the greatest importance to the issues related with harmonization and rapprochement of legislations of the Commonwealth states.

Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO)

The Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) is an interparliamentary body, set up upon the initiative of the Hellenic Parliament. The fundamental basis of the I.A.O. is expressed in the Manifesto of Participants of the Conference convened by the Hellenic Parliament in Halkidiki, Greece in 1993, which detected the need or the presence of Orthodoxy, as a common cultural expression of a large number of European citizens, in the shaping of contemporary Europe.

Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA)

The Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA) is an independent network made up of the national legislatures of those governments who are members of the Organization of American States (OAS). FIPA members are committed to promoting parliamentary participation in the inter-American system and to developing inter-parliamentary dialogue on issues of importance to the hemisphere.

Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

The IPU is the international organization of Parliaments (Article 1 of the Statutes of the Inter-Parliamentary Union). It was established in 1889. The Union is the focal point for world-wide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.

National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)

The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues. NCSL is an advocate for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies.

Baltic Assembly (BA)

The Baltic Assembly is an organisation established for coordinating the Baltic countries' cooperation on the parliamentary level, discussing issues and projects of mutual interest, addressing common problems, and expressing a common position concerning international, economic, political and cultural issues. Member states of the Baltic Assembly use trilateral cooperation as a force multiplier in international affairs.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

The Association's mission is to promote the advancement of parliamentary democracy by enhancing knowledge and understanding of democratic governance. It seeks to build an informed parliamentary community able to deepen the Commonwealth's democratic commitment and to further co-operation among its Parliaments and Legislatures. Conference of European Legislative Assemblies (CALRE)

CALRE unites seventy-four presidents of European regional legislative assemblies: the parliaments of the Spanish communities, Italian regional councils, the federated states of Germany and Austria, the Portuguese regions of l'Açores and Madeira, Scotland and Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom, Ǻland Islands in Finland and Belgium community and regional chambers.

Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF)

L’Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) est l’assemblée consultative de la Francophonie. Elle est constituée de sections membres représentant 77 parlements ou organisations interparlementaires. L’APF participe à la mise en place et au renforcement des institutions démocratiques par l’adoption de textes transmis aux instances de la Francophonie, par l’organisation de missions de bons offices et de missions d’observation électorale.

Assembly of Western European Union (WEU)

The Assembly was founded in 1954 when the 1948 Brussels Treaty on European security and defence cooperation was modified to establish the “Western European Union”. Article IX of the modified Brussels Treaty obliges WEU member governments represented in the Council to provide national parliamentarians who sit in the Assembly with a written annual report on their security and defence activities. The parliamentarians examine the report and make recommendations to governments which are bound to reply.
