International Conference on The policymaking role of Parliaments in the development of the Information Society

The International Conference on “The policymaking role of Parliaments in the development of the Information Society” was organized by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) provided substantive and technical inputs to the Conference through the Global Centre for Information and Communication Technologies in Parliament.

Ukrainian translation of the World e-Parliament Report 2012 now available

The Parliamentary Development Project for Ukraine has worked with the Division of Computerized Systems of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to provide the Ukrainian translation of the original English language World e-Parliament Report 2012.

Addressing the digital divide remains high on the agenda of national and international ICT policy makers and there are promising signs of progress in this area. An analysis by the International Telecommunication Union shows that the digital divide among countries is growing smaller.

Measuring the Information Society

The latest edition of Measuring the Information Society features the new ITU ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket - two benchmarking tools to measure the Information Society. The IDI captures the level of advancement of ICTs in 159 countries worldwide and compares progress made between 2002 and 2008. It also measures the global digital divide and examines how it has developed in recent years.
